Dan Frederickson, owner of 60 California Street in Ventura

Dan Frederickson currently sits on the Board of Directors of three companies—Black Raven Energy, Cydcor, Culligan International.

Prior to being the Managing Director of OFFCO, Dan was the president of Kinko’s, Inc.; started and was CEO of Pink Dot grocery delivery and was a regional controller for Xerox.

Dan is a graduate of Central Missouri State University.

He now lives in Ventura with his wife.

Mike Tracy was first elected to the Ventura City Council in November 2009.  He was appointed to the role of Deputy Mayor by his colleagues in December 2009, and will serve as Deputy Mayor for the first two years of his four-year term.

Mike is a product of Ventura.

Mike and his wife Linda, a retired teacher of the Ventura Unified School District, met as students at Ventura High School, and have been married 40+ years.

Mike was Police Chief from 1999 to 2005—capping off a 30-year career with the City.

Note: In my discussion with Mike Tracy and Nancy Broschart, we discuss the $1 million funding for WAV from Ventura Water.

To clarify that issue, Ventura established an ordinance allocating 2% of eligible City capital improvement project costs for the commissioning of artist design services and artwork integrated in the construction of public works. Policy oversight of the program is the responsibility of the Public Art Commission, a seven person volunteer advisory body.

The $1 million for WAV came from this 2% allocation.

William Bertram MacFarland (known as Bertie Mac) never sought—or even imagined—a role as a Special Assistant to President John F. Kennedy.

He holds degrees from Duke University were in Mathematics and Physics (Quantum Mechanics) but fate and the U.S. government extinguished any hope of a career in those fields.

He slowly came to be a friend and confidant of President Kennedy in his (unsought) role as Special Assistant to the President and he tried in vain to resign his position when President Kennedy was assassinated.

Harry Walsh, California Superior Court Judge Candidate

Judge Harry Walsh is a 14-year veteran of the civil trial department, having presided over hundreds of civil trials.

Judge Walsh serves with distinction as the Presiding Judge of the Appellate Division of the Superior Court.

Appointed to the bench by Gov. Pete Wilson in 1998, he was elected without opposition in 2000 and reelected without opposition in 2006.

He was named Ventura County’s “Judge of the Year” in 2002.

Rick Cole, Ventura City Manager

Rick Cole is Ventura’s City Manager since 2004. He succeeded Donna Landaros in that role.

Under the Charter adopted by the citizens of Ventura in 1934, the City Manager is “the administrative head of the City government . . . responsible to the City Council for the administration of all City affairs” including hiring and firing department heads, preparing the annual budget and ensuring the effective implementation of the City Council’s policies and priorities.

The City Manager advises Council on strategic direction for the City and responding to changing community needs.

Most of all, the City Manager provides overall organizational leadership to ensure the effective daily delivery of services, projects and programs, guided by the City’s 2005 General Plan.

Christy Weir, Ventura City Council Member and Ventura County Board of Supervisors candidate

Christy Weir was first elected to the Ventura City Council in 2003, and served as Deputy Mayor for a two-year term.

She was re-elected to the Council in 2007; at which time her fellow council members selected her as Mayor.

In her professional life, Christy has been a schoolteacher and Managing Editor at Gospel Light Publications and freelance editor and writer.

Christy is the founder of the Grant Park Conservancy. Founder and board member, Downtown Ventura Organization; Board member, Ventura Music Festival; Member, CSUCI Dean’s Advisory Council.

Christy was born in Santa Barbara, and she and her husband, Tim, have lived in the City of Ventura since 1985.

She has two grown children and five grandchildren.

In her leisure time, Christy enjoys sea kayaking, playing guitar and piano, bicycling, sculpting, painting and traveling.

Christy earned her BA degree, Magna Cum Laude, in Liberal Studies, with a Concentration in Art, from Cal State University Channel Islands.

She has been married 27 years and has four children ages 18 to 24 years old.

Paul Polak, author of OUT OF POVERTY

Paul Polak is the co-founder and CEO of Windhorse International, a for-profit social venture with the mission of inspiring and leading a revolution in how companies design, price, market and distribute products to benefit the 2.6 billion customers who live on less than $2 a day.

Mike Tracy, Ventura Mayor

Mike Tracy was first elected to the Ventura City Council in November 2009.  He was appointed to the role of Deputy Mayor by his colleagues in December 2009, and will serve as Deputy Mayor for the first two years of his four-year term.

Mike is a product of Ventura. He grew up on Ventura Avenue. He attended E.P. Foster, Avenue, De Anza, and Ventura High Schools. Upon receiving an AA Degree in liberal arts from Ventura College and a BA Degree in Sociology from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Mike joined the United States Army. After serving as a medical x-ray technician, he worked for the Ventura County Probation Department and later as a social worker in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Program of Ventura County. In 1975 he joined the Ventura Police Department. Mike and his wife Linda, a retired teacher of the Ventura Unified School District, met as students at Ventura High School, and have been married almost 40 years.

During his 30-year career with the City, Mike worked in patrol, detectives, investigations, and administration. He was promoted to Chief in 1999 and served in that position for 6 years. As police chief he was responsible for almost 200 employees and a 30 million dollar annual budget.

Mike has served on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Ventura, Caregivers, the Police Activities League, and the Salvation Army.

Since retiring from the Police Department, Mike has worked as a realtor, employed with two residential brokerages in Ventura.

Mike and Linda’s son Matthew is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, currently serving as a Major in the Strategic Air Command in Omaha, Nebraska.

They enjoy spending time with their son and daughter-in-law and their three grandchildren.

Scott Rasmussen, author of THE PEOPLE'S MONEY

Scott Rasmussen is founder and president of Rasmussen Reports. He is a political analyst, author, speaker and, since 1994, an independent public opinion pollster.

“If it’s in the news, it’s in our polls” is more than a company slogan; it’s the way Scott runs his business.

Scott translates numbers into meaningful analysis and commentary about current events, underlying trends and the questions that Americans are curious about. He is a frequent guest on Fox News, CNBC, BBC and The Colbert Report just to name a few.

Scott is the author of several books. His latest is The People’s Money: How Voters Will Balance the Budget and Eliminate the Federal Debt.

Scott did his first radio commercial at the age of seven and considers a career highlight the opportunity to work closely with hockey legend Gordie Howe.

Oh, yeah. Scott has another claim to fame. He and his father also founded the cable sports network ESPN. They sold their interest in 1984.

Tyler Mathisen, co-anchor of CNBC's POWER LUNCH

Tyler Mathisen co-anchors CNBC’s Power Lunch and is Vice President for Strategic Editorial Initiatives working closely with CNBC’s Business Development and Marketing teams on strategic initiatives and alliances.

Previously, Tyler was Managing Editor of CNBC Business News responsible for directing the network’s daily content and coverage. Mathisen also hosted CNBC’s High Net Worth.

Tyler has reported one-hour documentaries for the network including Best Buy: The Big Box Fights Back and Supermarkets Inc: Inside a $500 Billion Money Machine. Tyler is also the host of the CNBC series How I Made My Millions.

Before joining CNBC in 1997, Tyler spent 15 years as a writer, senior editor and top editor at Money magazine. While there, he won the first-ever National Magazine Award for New Media in 1997.

Tyler served as money editor of ABC’s Good Morning America from 1991 to 1997. He also won an Emmy Award for a report on the 1987 stock market crash that aired on New York’s WCBS-TV.

A native of Arlington, VA, Tyler graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia.

Interestingly, Tyler’s wife, Joanne, is a producer for The Today Show on NBC.

Dr. Horace “Woody” Brock holds of five academic degrees.

He earned his B.A., M.B.A., and M.S. from Harvard University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University (mathematical economics and political philosophy).

He was elected an Andrew Mellon Foundation Bicentennial Fellow in 1976. Dr. Brock studied under Kenneth J. Arrow, Professor of Economics, and John C. Harsanyi, Professor of Economics, University of California, Berkeley, both winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics.

John Taylor, author of FIRST PRINCIPLES

John Brian Taylor is the Mary and Robert Raymond Professor of Economics at Stanford University, and the George P. Shultz Senior Fellow in Economics at Stanford University‘s Hoover Institution.

Born in Yonkers, New York, John earned his A.B. from Princeton University in 1968 and Ph.D. from Stanford in 1973, both in economics.

He taught at Columbia University and the Woodrow Wilson School and Economics Department of Princeton University before returning to Stanford.

In a 1993 paper he proposed the Taylor rule, intended both as a recommendation about how nominal interest rates should be determined and as a rough summary of how central banks actually do set them.

He has been active in public policy, serving as the Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs during the first term of the George W. Bush Administration.

He was a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors during the George H. W. Bush Administration and Senior Economist at the Council of Economic Advisors during the Ford Administration.
