Nobody’s story is a more compelling example of what a city government can do to its citizens than Helen Yunker‘s. Our theme for today’s show is government’s role in protecting its citizens.
Helen owns property on the Ventura hillside above a city-owned lot that was used for water runoff from the hillside. The water runoff undermined the hillside stability threatening Helen’s home. Whe she approached Ventura to do something about it, she was given the brush off. That was over 12 years ago. To date, it’s costed Helen in excess of $506,000 to fight City Hall. And the fight’s not over yet.
