Mike Tracy, Ventura Mayor

Mike Tracy was first elected to the Ventura City Council in November 2009.  He was appointed to the role of Deputy Mayor by his colleagues in December 2009, and will serve as Deputy Mayor for the first two years of his four-year term.

Mike is a product of Ventura. He grew up on Ventura Avenue. He attended E.P. Foster, Avenue, De Anza, and Ventura High Schools. Upon receiving an AA Degree in liberal arts from Ventura College and a BA Degree in Sociology from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Mike joined the United States Army. After serving as a medical x-ray technician, he worked for the Ventura County Probation Department and later as a social worker in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Program of Ventura County. In 1975 he joined the Ventura Police Department. Mike and his wife Linda, a retired teacher of the Ventura Unified School District, met as students at Ventura High School, and have been married almost 40 years.

During his 30-year career with the City, Mike worked in patrol, detectives, investigations, and administration. He was promoted to Chief in 1999 and served in that position for 6 years. As police chief he was responsible for almost 200 employees and a 30 million dollar annual budget.

Mike has served on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Ventura, Caregivers, the Police Activities League, and the Salvation Army.

Since retiring from the Police Department, Mike has worked as a realtor, employed with two residential brokerages in Ventura.

Mike and Linda’s son Matthew is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, currently serving as a Major in the Strategic Air Command in Omaha, Nebraska.

They enjoy spending time with their son and daughter-in-law and their three grandchildren.
