Doug Halter, former Ventura City Council Candidate

Doug Halter is originally from Northern California where he still has a large extended family.

In 1978 he moved away to attend U.C. Santa Barbara where he graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.

His work experience includes engineering and marketing positions for Shell Oil, Proctor and Gamble, Unisys and several educational software companies.

Over the last several years he has renovated old homes in Ventura and built two new ones.  He renovated a historic church in downtown Ventura and opened it as the Laurel Theater.  He sold the theater to Rubicon Theatre Company.

Doug has a thriving landscape business, which he’s owned for over 13 years.

Doug credits strong principles instilled in him by his grandfather for helping him persist in finding innovative ways to find solutions to problems in our community.

He wears many hats in the community including Lead Trainer for the California State Positively Speaking program, Chair of the AIDS Partnership of Ventura County, Chair the Ventura Chamber of Commerce, interim chair of the Downtown Ventura Community Council, Board member of the Visitors and Tourism Bureau, the Police Activities League, the Ventura Music Festival, the Historic Preservation Alliance, the San Buenaventura Foundation for the Arts, as well as participates on several committees.  He has also been a Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Past President of AIDS Care, member of the Star Editorial Board, and a City Council candidate.

The Los Angeles Times declared him one of the people to watch in 1999 and he received the Ventura Citizen of the Year Award in 2001.
